Website Design & Content Management
The University of Surrey Students' Union asked us to provide consultation and design for a refresh of the user journeys and user experiences of their website.
There were some significant constraints on the development of any design proposals: the site was built in Microsoft Sharepoint, and would need to stay within the template-driven architecture of that platform, there is a large team of people responsible for the addition, updating and removal of content over a very large site, many of whom change every year following SU elections.
We undertook research into other Student Union websites and engaged with the current administrators and users of the site to enable us to understand the areas of most problem and what users would like to see on the site following any development. We also helped with an audit of all of the content of the current site, to identify out of date and redundant content for removal or updating.
Once we had completed the research and understanding phases of the project, we developed design proposals for user testing and liaised with the USSU development team to ensure they were practical and achievable within the Sharepoint framework.
After switching to the newly-designed templates, we worked with the USSU teams to ensure that all content was correct and that all core functions worked, as well as providing regular weekly reviews of newly added content to ensure adherence to the new design standards.
